Use

The integrated viewer contains measurement functions so you can measure angles, lines and radii and save them to a layer. There are two ways of adding measurements to an original application file:

  • You only need the measurements in the current processing situation, and therefore they do not have to be saved in a layer.

  • You want to save the measurements for later processing purposes. In this case you save the measurements in an existing layer or create a new layer for the measurements.

Measurement Functions and Measurement Procedures

You can use the following measurement functions:

Angle measurement

  • Position the cursor on the first side of the angle and click the left-hand mouse button.

  • Position the cursor on the vertex of the angle and click the left-hand mouse button.

  • Position the cursor on the second side of the angle and click the left-hand mouse button.

Line measurement

  • Position the cursor on the start point of the line and click the left-hand mouse button.

  • Position the cursor on the end point of the line and click the left-hand mouse button.

Radius measurement

Position the cursor on three points one after the other for the circle to be measured. Click with the left-hand mouse button on each point.

You can select the following measurement procedures:

Raster

This measurement procedure is relevant for original application files in pixel format, such as *.TIF, and *.BMP.

The basis of this procedure is the pixels that are saved in the original application file.

In order to preserve the accuracy of the measurement results it is highly recommended that you calibrate before measuring lines and radii.

Vector

This measurement procedure is relevant for original application files in vector format, such as *.DWG, and *.CWG.

The basis for this procedure is the data for the vectors (contact point, direction, and relief) that is saved in the original application file.

Measuring Without Saving

You display the original application file with the integrated viewer in the standard SAP system, and the viewer function bar active.

  1. Select   Tools   Measurements   .

  2. The system adapts the function bar for the new functions. For example, dimensioning functions, the function buttons for the measurement procedure, as well as calibration are available.

    For information about the other application functions, see: Enter Markups As a Comment .

  3. Select the measurement procedure for the original application file (for example pixel for *.TIF).

  4. Select the measurement function (such as length measurement).

The remainder of the procedure depends on the measurement procedure that you have selected.

  • If you selected Raster it is recommended that you calibrate first. Then carry out the measurement function.

  • If you selected Vector you can start immediately with the measurement function.

You can switch between any measurement functions.

  1. To return to the viewer function bar, choose  ( ) . The measurement data is not saved.

Measuring with Saving

You display the original application file with the integrated viewer in the standard SAP system and the redlining function selected. The redlining function bar is active.

  1. Select   Settings   Extras   .

  2. Make changes to the following settings in the dialog box that appears:

  • Select Measurement functions on

You must set this indicator in order to use the measurement functions in the redlining function bar.

  • Select Calibrate if the original application file is a pixel format.

  • Select the measurement procedure Raster-based .

  • Confirm with  ( ) .

The redlining function bar is active again.

  1. Select the measurement function (such as length measurement).

  • If you selected Raster it is recommended that you calibrate first. Then carry out the measurement function.

  • If you selected Vector you can start immediately with the measurement function.

Recommendation Recommendation

End of the recommendation.

Carry out the measurement according to type, for example, first the angle measurement, and then the radius measurement. In this case you can carry out additional measurements of the same type by pressing Continue , and therefore not need to change your type settings as frequently.

Save the layer using  ( ) .
