Creating the Line Hierarchy Locate this document in the navigation structure

Prerequisites

You must create a work center for all the line segments you want to include in the structure of the line hierarchy. The simplest line hierarchy only consists of one line segment in which case you only have to create one work center.

Procedure

  1. To access the Line Design menu, choose   Logistics   Production   Master data   Line design   .

  2. Choose   Line hierarchy   Create   .

  3. The Line Hierarchy screen appears.

  4. In the Line hierarchy field, enter the work center you want to use as the header of the line hierarchy.

  5. If you work in a takt-based production environment and you want to carry out line balancing periodically for your model mix, do not select the indicator No line balancing.

  6. If you only produce one material at a time and you enter the planned rates manually, select the No line balancing indicator .

  7. Choose ( ) .

  8. You access the Planned rates tab page.

  9. Enter the unit of measure you want to use for the production line (for example, piece).

  10. Enter the maximum production rate of the line (for example, pieces per hour) and define whether you want to use the maximum production rate as the basis for takt-based scheduling .

  11. Choose ( ) Line segments and create the structure of the production line. To do this, select the work centers you want to create as line segments and organize them graphically in the line hierarchy.

  12. If you want to use different processing profiles for the line segments, insert sort buffers between these line segments and enter the processing profile for each line segment.

  13. Define the line segment for which you want the system to display a separate row in the planning view of the sequence schedule. You do this by defining the line segment as the visualization segment for planning.

  14. Define the line segment you want the system to display in the control view of the sequence schedule. You do this by defining the line segment as the visualization segment for control.

  15. You can enter the planned production rate manually or you can instruct the system to carry out line balancing to calculate it automatically. The planned production rate of a period determines how often a material is placed on the production line.

  16. Save the line hierarchy.

Result

You have created a line hierarchy which determines the master data for scheduling. For more detailed information on how to maintain line hierarchies, please refer to the SAP Documentation entitled PP Line Design .
