You can use this tool to evaluate and present interactively data of Periodic Product Controlling and Product Cost by Order .
Examples of characteristics used in data summarization are material, plant and product groups. This enables you to see data at a higher level (such as all planned costs and actual costs for a particular order type) and then go to a deeper level of that dataset (such as the planned costs and actual costs for the individual orders).
Product drilldown reports offer easy-to-use functions for navigating in the dataset (such as the next level, or the next object within a level). There are also a number of interactive functions in the report (such as hiding columns, sorting within a column, top node selection, and so forth).
Since product drilldown reporting is based on the same technique as drilldown reporting in Profitability Analysis (CO-PA), you can find detailed information on individual navigation functions under Drilldown Reporting in the cross-application topics.
Example
Suppose you are producing materials M1 and M2 in plants A and B.
You have a report that summarizes the data by the characteristics plant and material . The product drilldown supplies dynamic analyses from different perspectives:
Which materials accounted for which production costs in plant A?
Plant A
– Material M1 USD 1000
– Material M2 USD 6000
Note
What were the production costs for material M1 in the two plants?
Material M1
– Plant A USD 1000
– Plant B USD 3000
You can go from the characteristic level Material to a product drilldown report with the additional characteristic Order . This enables you to see the data for all orders for a material.
From there you can call up a cost element itemization for a single order.
The following points refer to the use of product drilldowns:
Import the product drilldown reports of the standard system in Customizing for Product Cost Controlling under
You also import the form 7GLOBALVARIS (global variables) in Customizing for Product Cost Controlling under
.The characteristic product group is used in the drilldown reports in the standard system. The value of this characteristic can be derived in different ways. You specify the method by selecting a product group type. If you want to use the characteristic product group type , choose the product group type that you want to use in Customizing for Product Cost Controlling under
.You can find more information under Product Groups in Product Drilldown .
You create a cost component structure for displaying cost elements grouped into cost components in the Information System. You must first create this cost component structure in Customizing for Product Cost Planning for the Information System. You specify this cost component structure in Customizing for Product Cost Controlling under
.Why is a special cost component structure needed here?
Example
Work in process is derived from the results analysis cost elements for both objects with settlement type "Periodic" and objects with settlement type "Full settlement". If the results analysis cost elements are not assigned in the cost component structure for product drilldown, the work in process appears either in the cost component Other (if defined) or as not assigned.
Check the order types that are to be summarized in the data collection, and change them if necessary in Customizing for Product Cost Controlling under
.If the reports provided in the SAP standard system do not meet your requirements, you can define your own reports.
You can define your own reports in Customizing for Product Cost Controlling under
. There you can also access information on the procedure for doing so.Execute a data collection run to select current data for your reports.
Note
If you later change the product group type, the cost component structure, the order types to be summarized, or other settings, you must then execute the data collection run for the entire time frame in order to update the dataset.
For more detailed information on the Customizing activities, see Customizing for the Product Cost Controlling Information System .
The SAP standard system provides a number of drilldown reports designed to meet your requirements.
Each standard drilldown report is supplied as a periodic report and as a cumulative report.
In this format the report key figures are by period. These reports are useful for fast navigation between periods and are intended for monthly reporting. These reports also offer a view of up to 16 past periods for each combination of characteristics.
To call up the report, enter a plant if you want to limit the selection to a particular plant.
You must enter the period/fiscal year that is to be at the beginning of the report. You can use the arrows Next Column and Previous Column to go from one period to the next. The selection screen includes the specified period and the 15 preceding periods.
Two views can be selected:
Detail List
Drilldown List
The detail list for a periodic report shows the same key figures in the columns as in the drilldown list. However, the detail list shows all 16 available periods for the selected object. The drilldown list shows the values of the selected characteristic.
Example
Drilldown List
January 2008

ROH1 ROH2 ROH3 |
100 140 120 |
120 200 130 |

140 200 130 |
Cumulative reports show you summarized values for a specified time period. You specify this time period when you access the report. For example, you can see the key figures for the following analyses:
Quarterly analysis
An analysis of the previous 5 months
An analysis of the previous fiscal year
Enter the following data:
From period/fiscal year
To period/fiscal year
In a cumulative report, the detail list and the drilldown list offer you a similar result as with periodic reports. Instead of reporting by periods, the values are reported by the categories debit, credit, settlement credit, and delivery credit.
The standard product drilldown reports summarize the dataset across the following characteristics:

Periodic Reports |
---|---|
Plant Product group Material Period / year Cost component |
