In-House Production Kanban with Trigger Point Locate this document in the navigation structure

Use

The trigger point indicates how many kanban containers must be used up before replenishment is triggered. The status of these containers whose contents have been consumed is automatically set to Waiting . When the trigger point is reached, the system automatically sets the number of waiting kanban containers to Empty . This number must be reached before the system can trigger replenishment.

The trigger point is a threshold value used to trigger replenishment of a material in the case of in-house production. You can either specify the value manually or have it calculated by the system.

Prerequisites

For you to be able to use the trigger point function, the following prerequisites must be satisfied:

  • You have set the Take Capacity Situation into Account indicator in the IMG activity Define In-House Production Strategies Customizing for Kanban in Customizing for Kanban.

  • You have set the calculation type 1 on the Kanban Calculation tab page in control cycle maintenance.

  • You have specified a planning work center on the Consideration of Capacity tab page in control cycle maintenance.

Features

Each time the demand source confirms consumption of the content of a kanban container, the system checks the number of containers in a control cycle that have the status Waiting . As long as the quantity has not yet reached the value of the trigger point, the system likewise sets the status of the kanban container in question to Waiting . As soon as the trigger point is reached, the system sets the status of these containers to Empty , thus triggering replenishment. In this way, you ensure that the system does not immediately set individual containers to Empty , but instead sets this status for a number of containers at the same time. This enables you to avoid frequent resetups and improve your capacity utilization.
