Lifecycle for Control Cycles Locate this document in the navigation structure

Use

With the lifecycle, you can exactly replicate the phases of the control cycle. It thus enables you to plan more exactly and keep closer track of your data. On the basis of the different statuses, you can monitor which control cycles have just been created, whether a control cycle has been released and is being used in production, or whether a control cycle is no longer in productive use and has been flagged for deletion.

Integration

The different statuses of the lifecycle provide you with enhanced functions in mass processing for control cycles.

Prerequisites

To use the lifecycle status for control cycles, in Customizing choose   Production   Kanban   Activate Additional Functions for Control Cycles.

Features

You make all status changes for a control cycle in selection list of the relevant status field in the detail view for control cycle maintenance. In addition to the status types, you can enter other data on the new subscreen, such as (planned) release or lock date, which facilitates detailed planning. The status and data fields are also available in the table view of the Advanced List Viewer (ALV). The following four statuses are available:

  • In Creation

If you have activated lifecycle status management in Customizing, each new control cycle is created in the status In Creation . The data of this control cycle may be inconsistent. It contains no kanban containers. Only when you wish to change the status to Created do you need to carry out a consistency check.

  • Created

As soon as the control cycle is consistent and you change its status to Created in the classic Kanban procedure, the system creates the desired number of kanban containers in status Locked . The kanbans cannot be unlocked. Functions such as Display Kanbans or Print Kanbans now become active. You can release control cycles with this status for productive use. You have the option of entering a planned release or lock date.

In contrast, no kanban containers are created by the system in event-driven Kanban. With control cycles in this status, you cannot trigger the material replenishment process.

  • Released

With control cycles in the status Released , you can trigger replenishment processes. The kanban containers belonging to the control cycle can be unlocked. For additional information, see Releasing Kanban Containers . Entry of a planned lock date facilitates exact control per control cycle, to plan withdrawal from production, for example.

  • Locked

You can set this status if you want to withdraw control cycles from the production process. The replenishment process for the kanban containers such a control cycle contains can be completed, but not retriggered. They too acquire the status Locked and cannot be unlocked again in this control cycle status.

Only locked control cycles can be deleted together with all associated data.

Activities

You can use the report Change Lifecycle Status to carry out a mass change of the lifecycle status. On the basis of the planned release and lock dates, this report changes the status of the control cycles automatically. In the case of locked control cycles, the system checks whether they satisfy the prerequisites for deletion.

You can call up the report via the SAP Easy Access Menu under   Logistics   Production   Kanban   Control Cycle   Change Lifecycle Status   .

You can now create change documents for status changes and all other changes affecting the control cycle data. To display the documents, choose the Change Documents button in the detail view of control cycle maintenance. In Customizing, you activate the change documents under   Production   Kanban   Activate Additional Functions for Control Cycles.
