Use

You can create XStep texts centrally in the cross-plant standard XStep repository and then translate the texts into all necessary languages. As a basic rule, short and long texts of all XStep objects are translatable in the XStep editor.

You can use this facility to translate the texts that are to be used in several plants into the languages of your users. This reduces the maintenance effort and ensures uniform production processes.

Prerequisites

You have carried out the following Customizing activities in Customizing under   Production Planning Process Industry   Process Coordination   Execution Steps   Standard XStep

Repository :

  • Define Translatable Process Instruction Characteristics

The process instruction characteristics that are regarded as translation-relevant in the standard system are displayed in this Customizing activity and are thus translatable. You have made the following settings where necessary:

    • If you have defined customer-specific process instruction characteristics and these are to be translatable, you must enter them here.

    • If you remove an entry, it is no longer translation-relevant and therefore also not translatable.

  • Define Preferred Standard Language

In this IMG activity, you have defined the standard language in which the system is to display the standard XSteps if the latter have not yet been translated into the desired target language.

If you do not specify a preferred standard language, as a basic rule, the system continues to display the source language until such time as translation into the logon language has been completed.

    Example Example

You have defined English as the preferred standard language. You are logged on in German and have created a new XStep. You then translated the text into English. The XStep is now also to be translated into French. A user logs on in French. Because there is as yet no translation into French, the system displays the new XStep in the preferred standard language English. As soon as the French translation is available, it will be displayed to the user when the latter logs on in French.

    End of the example.

Features

Creation of Translations

You can translate the source texts by logging on to the system in the desired target language. In the cross-plant standard XStep repository, you then invoke the standard XStep that are be translated in change mode and overwrite the original texts in the logon language. The system then saves your input as the translation, i.e. the texts of the standard XStep are available a) in the original language and b) in the translation.

If you can log on in a further language, you can overwrite the texts in this language too. In this way, you can translate your texts into any number of languages.

Translation Overview

To obtain an overview of already existing and missing translations, you can use the Display Translations function. You invoke this function by clicking on a node in the XStep repository (e.g. folder or XStep) with the right-hand mouse key and then choosing the entry Display Translations in the context menu that appears. Alternatively, you can use the key combination CTRL-F11 to call up the function.

The system then shows an overview in the lower part of the screen, in which all the texts of the selected XStep subtree are listed.

By double-clicking on a line in the overview, you can highlight the relevant node in the tree display.

If you use the filter function, you can show the Translation Missing column. You can then filter the list according to this criterion, so that the system only displays those elements for which there is as yet no translation in the logon language.

Activities

Translation of Texts

To translate XStep texts, proceed as follows:

  1. You must log on in the desired target language.

  2. You call up the XStep in change mode and overwrite the texts in the logon language.

  3. You save your changes.

The system saves your input as the translation, i.e. the texts of the standard XStep are available a) in the original language and b) in the translation.

Searching for Missing Translations

If you want to search for missing translations, proceed as follows:

  1. First log on to the system with the language into which you want to translate your XSteps.

  2. Invoke the translation overview in the XStep editor as described above.

  3. Set a filter over the Translation Missing column and specify x as the value for the missing translation.

In the translation overview , the system then shows only the lines for which there is no translation in the current logon language.
