Update of Valuated Sales Order Stock Locate this document in the navigation structure

The sales order stock is valuated with the following prices:

  • If the material’s price control indicator is set to S: standard price

For internally manufactured materials, the system selects the standard price on the basis of a predefined strategy sequence. For externally procured materials, the standard price is the net order value (see also: Standard Price with Valuated Sales Order Stock ).

  • If the material’s price control indicator is set to V: moving average price

SAP recommends against the use of the moving average price. Read the following sections:

If you are using a valuated sales order stock, goods movements result in postings in Financial Accounting (FI), just as in make-to-stock production (see also: Cost Object Controlling from an Accounting Point of View ).

Update of Inventory Values

The inventory values are updated when the goods receipts of the internally manufactured or externally procured materials are entered.

Update of Sales Order Stock Managed on a Quantity and Value Basis

If the valuation indicator M is selected in the requirements class in Customizing for Product Cost by Sales Order , posting the goods receipt in the sales order stock automatically updates the following data:

  • Standard price : updated by the first goods receipt posting

  • Moving price : price that changes as a result of goods movements and invoices entered in the system; may be updated statistically

  • The system calculates the moving average price automatically by dividing the material value in the material stock account by the total of all warehouse inventories in a plant.

  • Total stock: Total quantity of all valuated inventories of the sales order stock

  • Total value: Total value of all valuated inventories of the sales order stock

You can view the valuated sales order stocks in the menu Inventory Management (see also: Viewing Valuated Special Stocks ). A requirement is that the materials are managed with reference to the sales document item/project and separately from the make-to-stock inventory. This means that the indicator Valuation in the requirements class must have the entry M .

Update of Make-to-Stock Inventory with Sales Order Stock Managed on a Quantity Basis

If the Valuation indicator in the requirements class has the entry A , the goods receipt posting updates the above values in the material’s master record. In this case, no valuation view is created for the sales order stock.

If the component Actual Costing/Material Ledger is active, the system collects the goods movements and invoice receipts and calculates a new value for inventory valuation during period-end closing. For Actual Costing to have all relevant values, the difference between the debit and the credit of an order is also settled to Actual Costing/Material Ledger during period-end closing. For more information on inventory valuation, see the documentation Actual Costing/Material Ledger .
