Component documentationData Collection (DC) Locate this document in the navigation structure

You use this component to allow operators on the shop floor to collect data values about SFC numbers, work centers, or resources.

Data Collection is supported through a Data Collection (DC) group. A DC group organizes related data parameters committed to a common analysis purpose during manufacturing (see Data Collection Group).

The information collected may be numeric or textual, and gathered at a defined data collection point.

Example Example

You may want to collect the following data:

  • Paste height on a circuit board

  • Temperature of a resource, an oven, when a board goes into or comes out of it

  • Thickness of a circuit board or a component on a circuit board

  • Humidity or temperature of a work center or work area

End of the example.

Implementation Considerations

When you set up data collection, you must decide the following:

  • The organization of data parameters into DC group

  • The purpose for which you want the data collected

  • The manufacturing point at which you want the data collected

  • How you want the data collected

  • What type of data you want to collect for an SFC number, work center, or resource

Integration

You use Data Collection Maintenance to define how Data Collection runs (see Data Collection Maintenance).

You can review previously collected data values via the SPC Display activity (see SPC Display).

You can change values of previously collected data using the Data Collection Edit activity (see Data Collection Edit).

You can set up Data Collection as a plug-in in the Standard, Integrated, and Rich Production Operation Dashboards (PODs) in POD Maintenance.

Features

You can use the collected data for the following:

  • Statistical Process Control (SPC) analysis, which is the process of monitoring production quality and process performance through the use of statistical methods (see Statistical Process Control (SPC))

  • Solving quality control problems relating to specific items

  • Monitoring the manufacturing process to assure quality

You may want to specify the activity rules to meet your requirements:

  • To specify how the system reacts if the DC group fails

  • To allow the system to show all DC groups to collect certain SFC numbers at certain attachment points (or prevent it from showing all DC groups)

  • To allow the collection of data for each SFC number or for a group of SFC numbers

  • To allow the data to be applied to all SFC numbers that have been processed together

For more information, see Data Collection Maintenance.
