You use this activity to collect the parent serial number of the installations' collector shop order.

You can collect the parent serial number of the collector shop order only once.

Prerequisites

You have set up the collection of the parent serial number.

Rules

The following table describes rules and settings that you can change for this activity in Activity Maintenance:

Rule

Setting

GENERATE_ID

TRUE (default): Automatically assigns a parent serial number based on the Next Number and SFC Release value

FALSE: Requires the operator to collect a parent serial number through the Collect Parent Serial Number activity

Procedure

To set up the collection of the parent serial number, proceed as follows:

  1. In System Rule Maintenance, change the Display End Unit Number rule setting to True to display the End Unit Number field in Shop Order Maintenance.

  2. In Material Maintenance, create a top-level material proceeding as follows:

    1. On the Main tab page, enter Manufactured in the Type field and select the following checkboxes:

      • Collector

      • Require Serial Number Change Before Shop Order Is Done

    2. On the System Rules tab page, change settings of the following rules to True:

      • Enable Pegging on Release

      • Enforce Pegging on Consumption

  3. In Material Maintenance, create a component proceeding as follows:

    1. On the Main tab page, enter Installation in the Type field and select the Collect Parent Serial Number checkbox.

    2. On the Build tab page, enter SFC in the Data to Collect on Assembly field.

  4. In BOM Maintenance, create a BOM for the top-level material. Add the component of the Installation type to the BOM and enter the _SYSTEM assembly operation.

  5. In Material Maintenance, retrieve the top-level material and specify a BOM that you have created for it in BOM Maintenance.

  6. In Next Number Maintenance, create a numbering pattern for the SFC Serialize number type of the top-level material.

  7. In Shop Order Maintenance, create a shop order for the top-level material. Enter an end unit number and select the Require Serial Number checkbox.

  8. In Shop Order Release, release the shop order for the top-level material.

Result

In the Rich POD, before completing the last operation of the SFC number, you can choose the Rich Collect Parent Serial Number activity.

To view the changed parent serial number, open the Shop Order and SFC reports.
