You use this activity to create or assign a new SFC number for a single or multipiece SFC number in the POD. Often, these SFC numbers will be a serial number of the unique work in the process you are building.

Prerequisites

You have selected only one SFC number from the Active Work list in the Standard POD (see Default Standard POD).

Rules

The following table describes rules and settings that you can change for this activity in Activity Maintenance:

Rule

Setting

GENERATE_ID

TRUE: Automatically generates a new SFC number, using the SFC-Serialize next number pattern in Next Number Maintenance

FALSE (default): Prompts the operator for the new SFC number

Note Note

You can use this number as a serial number for your product.

End of the note.

Procedure

To serialize an SFC number, proceed as follows:

  1. In the POD, choose Activities and then choose SFC Serialize. The system opens the SFC Serialize screen.

    Note Note

Depending on the system settings, the system may provide the user with the automatically generated new SFC numbers, or allow you to define them manually.

    End of the note.

The POD closes the Serialize SFC area and displays the Active Work List list. In the Active Work List, the system removes the original SFC number and replaces it with your new SFC numbers. The first new SFC number is selected.

  2. If the SFC Serialize screen provides fields for manually setting the new SFC number, enter the desired number into a corresponding field in the New SFC Number column.

    Note Note

Depending on the conventions of your shop floor, the new SFC numbers may be serial numbers.

    End of the note.
  3. Choose OK.

Result

The POD closes the Serialize SFC area and displays the Active Work List. In the Active Work List, the system removes the original SFC number and replaces it with your new SFC numbers. The first new SFC number is selected.
