Accessing PODs
You can allow production operators to open PODs in two ways:
Through the Activity Manager
Through a shortcut to the POD on the desktop
You can create shortcuts on users’ desktops. The URL property for such a desktop specifies your server name and port. When users double-click this shortcut on their desktops, the system opens the Activity Manager and displays only those activities specified in the user group the users belong to. If you allow an operator to access only the POD, the system displays only a link to the Production Operator Dashboard.
Example
You assign operator Jane Doe to the ASSEMBLERS user group. You also specify BUILD as the POD for the ASSEMBLERS user group in the POD field on the Main tab page in User Group Maintenance. When Jane Doe opens the POD, the system displays the Build POD.
In POD Maintenance, create a new custom Rich POD.
In Activity Maintenance, create a new activity as follows:
Enter the activity ID in the Activity field.
Enter the activity description in the Description field. This is what appears in the Activity Manager.
Select the Enabled checkbox.
Select the Visible in Activity Manager checkbox.
In the Class/Program field, enter the following:
jnlp/richpod/RPod.jsp?WORKSTATION=YOUR_CUSTOMPOD_NAME
The WORKSTATION value (YOUR_CUSTOMPOD_NAME) is the name of your custom Rich POD.
In the Type field, select Standalone GUI (.jsp).
On the Activity Groups tab page, assign your activity to the activity group you want it to appear in.
In User Group Maintenance, retrieve a user group and on the Permissions tab page, turn on the permissions for the activity you have created.
Instead of allowing production operators to view the Activity Manager, you can create a shortcut that opens only the POD on their desktops. When operators double-click the shortcut, the system opens only the POD. If the operator does not belong to a user group with a specified POD, you can configure the parameter list in the URL in the shortcut to control, which POD the system displays (see POD URL Parameters).
Note
The value in the POD field on the Main tab page in User Group Maintenance overrides the POD parameter in the URL. If you do not specify a POD in the POD field or use a URL, the system opens the * (default) POD.
Open the system with the Activity Manager, right-click the Production Operator Dashboard link in the activity list, and choose Open in New Window.
Adjust the size of the browser window so that a portion of the desktop is displayed.
Select the contents in the browser’s Address field and drag it to the desktop.
