Calculating the Consumption Data for Miles
per Gallon
Note the peculiarities described in this section for the calculation of the vehicle consumption data for “miles per gallon”.
The following prerequisites must be met so that a non-metric calculation or an inverse calculation of vehicle consumption data (for example, “distance/consumption”) can be made. The non-metric consumption calculation is, for example, necessary for the American market.
For further information on general prerequisites, see Fleet Management.
The Inverse Area (SURINV) is in Customizing under General Settings → Check Units of Measurement.
The measurement units M21 (square meters) and MPG (miles per gallon) are defined for this dimension:

In Customizing for Plant Maintenance and Customer Service, the entry M2 (Volume Consumption/Distance) is under Make Settings for Units of Measurement for the Consumption Monitoring.
The entry MPG (miles per gallon) is in the detailed view for the valid consumption units.
By assigning a display unit (here: MPG, Miles per gallon, Distance/Consumption), which is inverse to the consumption unit group (here: M2 (Volume Consumption/Distance), the non-metric or inverse consumption calculation (distance/consumption, for example, miles per gallon) can be made. This assignment depends on technical conditions.
In Customizing for Plant Maintenance and Customer Service, under Define Special Measurement Positions for Vehicles you have defined a consumption-relevant distance counter (Measurement item Distance) and a consumption-relevant fuel counter (measurement position Fuel).
In Customizing for Plant Maintenance and Customer Service, under Define Costing Procedure for the Calculation of Consumption Values you have defined a costing procedure:

Costing procedure |
For example, A |

In the characteristics management you have created the characteristics Miles and Gallon analog to the characteristics Kilometer and Liter.
To do this, from the SAP Easy Access screen, choose Cross-Application Components → Classification System → Master Data → Characteristics Management.
You have created a vehicle with counters and assigned the costing procedure to it (here: A). For more information, see Creating a Fleet Object as Equipment.
