Funds Management distinguishes between the following types of budget:

Original budget

The original budget is the budget originally allocated - that is, the budget, which was not yet changed by the required adjustments. The original budget corresponds to the maximum funds available.

Budget updates

Changes in business conditions may mean that you need to correct the original budget. The following correction measures are supported in Funds Management:

  • Supplements

  • Returns

  • Transfer postings

You can use supplements and returns to increase or reduce your budget. In addition to these more externally oriented budget updates, the third process - transfers - are designed to help you shift budget funds about internally.

Using budget subtypes, you can further divide up the following budget types: Original budget, supplement, return, and transfer posting. This differentiation enables you to set up special checks for the combination of budget type and budget subtype. You also need budget subtypes to be able to use the manual and automatic functions for revenue that increases the budget, and for cover eligibility. In addition, budget subtypes enable you to separately display the corresponding postings in the system. For more information, see the Implementation Guide (IMG) Funds Management Government , under the Budget Types section.

For an example of the use of budget subtypes by the customer Administration Germany, see Budget Subtypes for Customer Administration Germany .

In many organizations, distributing a budget is not the same as releasing the funds. For this reason, Funds Management includes a release option, which you can use to release the budget bit by bit. Releases can be expressed in percent or as absolute amounts. A release can relate to annual values and/or overall values.

The release is based on the current budget - that is, the original budget as amended by supplements, returns, and transfers.
