Background documentationSlot Configuration Maintenance

You use this activity to define slot configurations, as a function of Time-Based Genealogy (see Time-Based Genealogy).

Slot configuration defines which material is loaded in each slot on a time-based resource (see Resource).

You use the SLOT_QTY_DECREMENT activity hook to decrement the slot quantity for a component for an SFC number, based upon the assembly quantity and assembly operation as defined in the BOM (see Slot Quantity Decrement).

To ensure a correct way of collecting assembly data during time-based assembling, a correlation between structures of a slot configuration and of a BOM is required. The following scenarios are supported:

  • One slot to one component

The component is unique in a BOM. It means that the component without Ref Des is included only once or the component has a unique Ref Des. A slot configuration is configured in a way that there is only one slot that can be used for assembling this BOM component.

  • Several slots to one component

The component is unique in a BOM. It means that the component without Ref Des is included only once or the component has a unique Ref Des. The unique BOM component can be assembled from different slots of the same material. The slots have different names but identical configuration. The order of these slots is defined by the Sequence values of these slots within a slot configuration.

  • One slot to several components

A BOM has several components of the same material that have an identical configuration. Depending on the settings of system rules these components can have no Ref Des or the same Ref Des. A unique slot is configured in a way that only this slot can be used for assembling these BOM components.

  • Several slots to several components

A BOM has several components of the same material that have an identical configuration. Depending on the settings of system rules these components can have no Ref Des or the same Ref Des. A slot configuration has the same number of identical slots that can be used for assembling these BOM components. In this case, the order of the slots is defined by the Sequence values of these slots within a slot configuration. The order of BOM components is defined by the Sequence values of the components within the BOM. If you have these sequences, the first component obtains the assembly data from the first slot, the second component is assembled from the second slot and so on during time-based assembly.

Note that a slot configuration can consist of slots for different materials and a BOM can consist of BOM components of different materials. But for each distinct BOM component the relationship between the respective slots and BOM components must comply with one of the supported scenarios above.

Note that the configuration of a slot is determined by a tuple that includes a material, a material version, a set of Ref Des values, and a set of Location values.

Note that the scenario of several slots to several BOM components is not supported if the number of BOM components and the number of slots available for these BOM components are different.

Fields

The following tables describe fields requiring explanation:

Field

Description

Status

New: Prevents users from using this slot configuration when setting up resources, but allows users to change this slot configuration record; indicates that this slot configuration record is new and not ready for production.

Releasable: Allows users to use this slot configuration when setting up resources

Frozen: Allows users to use this slot configuration when setting up resources; indicates users should not change this slot configuration record

Obsolete: Prevents users from using this slot configuration when setting up resources; indicates this slot configuration is no longer used

Hold: Prevents users from using this slot configuration when setting up resources; indicates this status is temporary. When the hold issue is resolved, users can change the status of this record.

Caution Caution

The following statuses are not applicable for Slot Configuration Maintenance and should not be used:

Hold Consec NC

Hold SPC Viol

Hold SPC Warn

Hold Yield Rate

End of the caution.

BOM

The BOM which was used to create the slot configuration

Create Slot Config Number

Automatically creates a value in the Slot Config field. This value is based on the number type pattern for Slot Configuration in Next Number Maintenance.

Use BOM

Creates a new slot configuration using a BOM, or verifies an existing slot configuration against a BOM

Sequence

The order in which the system displays this slot on the Load or Replenish screen

State

The state of the slot:

New: This slot is new and not ready for production

Current: This slot is the current slot, or this slot matches the BOM for the material

Conflict: This slot conflicts with the location on a panel associated with the BOM component

Excess: This slot exists in Slot Configuration Maintenance, but does not exist in the BOM

Missing: This slot is missing in Slot Configuration Maintenance, but exists in the BOM

Ref Des

The reference designator on the board where the component is to be placed.

Note Note

If the field is left blank, components on this slot apply to all the Ref Des values of the BOM component.

You can enter two or more reference designators separated by a comma into this field.

End of the note.

Location

The location on the panel where the component is to be placed.

Details

Allows you to enter additional information for the current slot pertaining a slot quantity threshold or message type

Load BOM Screen

Field

Description

BOM Source

Either loads the BOM associated to the material or shop order selected

Assembly Operation

Loads the BOM components that are assembled at the specified assembly operation selected into the slot table on the main screen

Component Version

If selected, carries component version information from the loaded BOM forward and checks component versions during BOM verification

Slot Quantity Details Screen

Field

Description

Minimum Slot Qty Threshold

The minimum slot quantity threshold for the selected slot

Minimum Slot Qty Threshold Message Type

Allows you to assign a message that the system sends when the minimum slot threshold value for the component on the slot is reached

Zero Qty Remaining Message Type

Allows you to assign a message when the slot quantity for the component on the slot is zero
