You use this activity to create or assign new SFC numbers for a single or multipiece SFC number in the POD. Often, these SFC numbers will be a serial number of the unique work in the process you are building.
Note
You cannot serialize an SFC number if it is a member of an SFC group whose status is either Group Created
or Sampling Active
(see Sampling).
The following table describes rules and settings that you can change for this activity in Activity Maintenance
:
Rule | Setting |
---|---|
|
Note You can use this number as a serial number for your product. End of the note. |

To serialize an SFC number, proceed as follows:
In the POD, select an SFC number in status In Queue
at current operation.
Note
If you select an SFC number that is partially started, only the Active
quantity will be serialized. You can also select an SFC number with its entire quantity Active
.
If you want to serialize fewer pieces than the SFC quantity, enter the value in the Quantity
field in the POD.
Note
If the QTY_IS_ALWAYS_1
rule is TRUE
, one piece will be serialized.
Choose the Activities
button and then choose SFC Serialize
. The system opens the SFC Serialize
screen.
SFC Serialize
displays the original SFC number selected and a data entry field for each piece to create new SFC numbers.
Note
Depending on the system settings, the system may provide you with empty fields for manual creation of the new SFC number or a system generated new SFC number. If the fields are empty, enter the desired SFC number in each of the corresponding fields in the New SFC Number
column.
Choose OK
button to close the Serialize SFC
screen.
The POD closes the Serialize SFC
screen. In the POD, the system replaces the original Active
or In Queue
SFC number with your new SFC numbers. The new SFC numbers are selected. If the quantity of the original SFC number is now zero, it is marked as invalid and remains in the system for tracking and reporting purposes.
Note
Depending on the conventions of your shop floor, the new SFC numbers may be serial numbers.
