Relaxed routing flow relaxes the restriction that prevents a non-serialized SFC from being in work at more than one operation on a single routing at the same time and allows the SFC to flow down a routing in the natural manner that physical product flows down your production line.

Example Example

When a relaxed routing flow is used and you release an SFC with a quantity of 100, 10 pieces can be in work at the first operation at the same time 5 pieces are at in work at the second operation and 20 pieces are in work at the third operation.

In addition, you can use the shop order ID in place of the SFC number when you first release quantity to your production line, even if you release incrementally. When relaxed routing flow is allowed, the lot size controls whether additional SFCs are created after the first incremental release.

Create and Release SFC does not support subsequent releases of SFCs on the same shop order. Use Shop Order Release.

To limit the number of SFCs created for an order, set the material’s lot size to equal or exceed the build quantity of the order. If build quantity is unpredictable, set the lot size to a large number. For example, 999999999 or greater.

The following table explains each of the four cases.

Case

Explanation

Case A

Relaxed routing flow is not allowed on the routing. For example, if you release an SFC with a quantity of 100, the entire 100 pieces can be in work at only one operation on the routing at a time. Released SFCs follow the pattern defined in Next Number Maintenance (see Numbering Patterns).

Case B

Relaxed routing flow is not allowed on the routing. The first SFC released to the routing uses the shop order ID as its SFC number. For subsequent releases for the order, the SFC number follows the pattern defined in Next Number Maintenance.

Case C

Relaxed routing flow is allowed on the routing and quantity can be in work at more than one operation. Released SFC numbers follow the pattern defined in Next Number Maintenance. If the quantity of the first SFC released is less than the material’s lot size, for subsequent releases for the order, quantity is added to the first SFC until the lot size is reached. Once the lot size is reached, another SFC is created. For subsequent releases for the order, quantity is added to the second SFC until the lot size is reached, and so forth.

Case D

Relaxed routing flow is allowed on the routing and quantity can be in work at more than one operation. The first SFC released to the routing uses the shop order ID as its SFC number. If the quantity of the first SFC released is less than the material’s lot size, for subsequent releases for the order, quantity is added to the first SFC until the lot size is reached. Once the lot size is reached, another SFC is created. This SFC follows the pattern defined in Next Number Maintenance. For subsequent releases for the order, quantity is added to the second SFC until the lot size is reached, and so forth.
