One property of a database is its logical name, that is, the name of the database connection for the database or SAP liveCache.

The name of the database connection is normally created when installing the database or SAP liveCache. For the SAP MaxDB OLTP database that is the basis of the current SAP Web AS system, the name of the database connection must match the name of the SAP system.

  • You can assign a new name to a database connection (to create a test database, for example). To do this, use the integration of systems (DBA Cockpit,   System Configuration   Add System Entry   (Integrate Database System) or Datenbank/liveCache Assistant, Create Connection).

  • You can delete the name of a database connection. To do this, use the integration of systems (DBA Cockpit,   System Configuration   Delete System Entry   (Integrate Database System) or Datenbank/liveCache Assistant, Delete Connection).

SAP liveCache Technology: Predefining the Name of the Database Connection

You can predefine the name of the database connection with a default value for the initial screen of the liveCache Assistant. To do this, proceed as follows:

  1. Start the liveCache Assistant (transaction code LC10).

  2. Choose   System   User Data   Own Data  .

  3. Choose Parameters.

  4. Enter the following information:

    Parameter DBCON_NAME

    Value <name of database connection>

  5. Save your user data.

This name appears when you start the liveCache Assistant for the first time. If you call the liveCache Assistant again in a database session, the name of the last used database connection is always displayed.
