With this application you can quickly and easily search, browse, tag and consume HANA analytical content views using an internet web browser. You can view the official latest browser support within the Product Availability Matrix (PAM) under http://service.sap.com/PAM; specifically look for NW UI Extensions.

This application is available as an option for business users who want to consume HANA content views or preview data without using HANA studio. For ease of use, by default HANA content views are pre-organized by Application Component Hierarchy (ACH). You need to assign the developer or business role to a user.

  • Technical name of developer role: sap.hba.explorer.roles::Developer

  • Technical name of business user role: sap.hba.explorer.roles::Business

The developer user can access the application using the URL http://<HANA Server Host>:80<SAP HANA Instance Number>/sap/hba/explorerInformation published on non-SAP site (with shell).

Features

SAP HANA Live Browser is a SAP UI5 based web application that allows you to easily and quickly browse, search, and tag HANA content views and consume them in SAP Business Objects Lumira or Analysis Office for analyzing the data. With this web application, you can browse HANA content views organized by Application Component (ACH) or browse HANA content views organized by package. The default view is by application component. You can switch between the types of views by selecting Application Component, Package — Flat, or Package — Hierarchy using the left hand side tree layout control placed next to the Search button. You can also use the search feature to search for views according to name and its metadata. You can view details of views by clicking the buttons at the top menu.

You can log into SAP HANA Live Browser as either a developer or a business user. A business user can view all the views in the SAP HANA Live Browser that the user has access. A business user can open contents of the view, analyse the view in SAP Analysis Office and SAP Lumira. You can also check the metadata. The business user can view browser in two modes: with shell and without shell.

If you log into the SAP HANA Live Browser as a developer user, you can view all views in the SAP HANA system and not limited to views you have access. In addition to the business user functions, developer user can also personalize views using tags, search for views, check view cross references, and generate SLT file to find out the tables to replicate for a view or group of views.

Browse

  • HANA Views in Tree View

    For efficiency, HANA views are displayed in tree view format on the left side. And, when you click any view, details of the respective view display on the right side. For views that are open, you can choose to view Metadata (Open Definition tab) or Data (Open Content tab), and choose to view tables and views used as cross references (Cross Reference tab).

Search

  • Use the Search tab in the top menu to search for views, tables, view description, view column names, or private tags. When you expand a view, matched in tags, tables, and columns display. The auto complete feature lists the name of all views. You can also choose to view the definition or content of each view depending on your analytical privileges.

    When you enter a word, views that consume the table directly or indirectly are listed. You can enter the following set of characters to search: a-z, A-Z, 0–9, *, +, _ and space.

  • Favorites

    Use this option to add or mark the views as your favorite. Select a view and click the star icon to include the view as favorite. You can also mark an entire package as favorite. In this scenario, all the views within the package are automatically added as favorites. Click the dropdown icon near in the Filter option to select the package. Click the All Favorites option to display all the views marked as favorites.

Other Features

  • Personalizing and tagging views for building reports

    To create or personalize your own tags to HANA content views, select a view and then click the Tag button from the top menu. Multiple views can be added to the same tag. View and manage your saved tags from the top menu Tag button.

  • Metadata and data preview

    Use the Open Definition button to preview metadata in an open view. Click the Open Content tab to preview data.

  • Cross reference of views

    To display all views, tables, and value help views required to create a selected view, select the Open Cross Reference tab. You can then select the Graph View button to view cross references as a graph. All the information can be exported in XML format.

    Select the Expand All button to expand the graph.

  • Generating SLT replication files for a view or package

    You can quickly generate SLT files for a view or package by right clicking the respective package or view and then selecting Generate SLT file. You can also choose the CSV button on the top menu. The SLT file downloads a .CSV file that is consumed by the views so that you can replicate the listed tables before replicating the actual views.

  • Generating connection files for SAP Lumira 1.11.0 onwards

    To generate connection files for SAP Lumira, select a query view from the browser and click Open View in SAP Lumira. This feature generates a .svic file. If you open the file, you are prompted to enter the username and password to enter the HANA system.

    Note Note

    When you try to download the connection file for views from package sap.hba.r and sap.hba.apps, the message Your selected view belongs to package that is not meant for analysis using SAP Lumira. You may face issues during analysis. Do you wish to continue? displays. You can choose to download or not download the file.

    When you try to download the connection file for views with multi-dimensional reporting disabled, the message Multi-dimensional reporting is disabled for the selected view. You may face issues while analyzing such views. Do you wish to continue? displays.

    When you try to download the connection file for views having sap delivered non-query views, the message Your selected view is a non-query view, which is not meant for analysis using SAP Lumira. You may face issues during analysis. Do you wish to continue? displays. You can choose to download or not download the file

  • Generating connection files for Analysis Office 1.0.4 onwards

    You can generate connection files for analysis office by selecting a query view and clicking Open View in Analysis Office. This feature generates a .sapaox file. If you open the file, you are prompted to enter the username and password to enter the HANA system.

    Note Note

    You cannot download the connection files, if the multi-dimensional reporting is disabled.

  • Invalid Views

    You can click the Invalid View tab to view the list of invalid views. The invalid views in the HANA system are shown according to package hierarchy or package flat. You can view the tables consumed by these views by clicking Generate STL File button.

    Note Note

    You can download SLT file for multiple views at a time by selecting multiple rows within a table.
