With the enhancement logic, you can simplify document splitting by adding missing account assignments by a simple inheritance mechanism or by a standard account assignment.

Integration

Enhancement logic is a function of Document Splitting in new General Ledger Accounting.

You can activate the enhancement logic functions when you activate document splitting. The functions activated apply to all business transactions across the board. In the document splitting rules, you can also deactivate the activated functions for individual item categories.

Prerequisites

You have made the settings in Customizing for document splitting.

Features

If, after active document splitting has been performed, there are still line items without account assignments for the document splitting characteristics defined, you can use the following functions to add the missing account assignments:

  • Inheritance

You can set the Inheritance indicator when you activate document splitting. The system then tries to inherit the account assignments for the document splitting characteristics defined. See the example below. The system always considers the account assignments of the document splitting characteristics as a combination of account assignments together. It can only inherit the account assignments if the account assignment combination within the same document is unique. The inheritance simultaneously effects a zero balance setting for the document splitting characteristics defined.

You have the option of deactivating the activated inheritance for individual item categories of individual business transactions. For more information, see Document Splitting Rule.

  • Standard account assignment

In cases where the system cannot derive missing account assignments, you can define a standard account assignment. When you activate document splitting, you can set the Standard Account Assignment indicator and enter a constant. The system enters the standard account assignments defined in the constant in the line items without an account assignment. The system always considers the standard account assignments of the document splitting characteristics as a combination of account assignments together. For more information, see Constant for Standard Account Assignments.

You have the option of deactivating the activated standard account assignment for individual item categories of individual business transactions. For more information, see Document Splitting Rule.

Example

The following example illustrates how inheritance works. Segments and profit centers are defined as document splitting characteristics.

The following table shows the relevant document fields in the general ledger view when account assignment inheritance has been activated: Inheritance causes the system to project the document splitting characteristics defined in the line items for the petty cash and input tax accounts, without using a document splitting rule for this. At the same time, the inheritance effects a zero balance setting for the document splitting characteristics defined.
