By using the change master record function, you can define how the change process is to be controlled using the change master record. You decide how the release process takes place and if the change is controlled with a change hierarchy.
You can maintain
both simple change master records (without additional functions) and change
master records with special functions in the standard system.
For example, you can organize small changes in a simple process with reference
to a simple change master record. Complex changes are more complicated as
regards planning, execution, and release. It is usually best to plan complex
changes with reference to a change master record that allows a release
process.
You can change all objects that are to be processed with engineering change management with reference to a simple change master record (without additional functions).
At the present moment in time, you can process the following objects using additional functions:
· All BOM categories
· Task list types:
- Routings
- Reference operation sets
· Characteristics
· Characteristics of class
· Classification
You can activate the release process in Customizing for Logistics - General under Engineering Change Management → Set Control Data.
If you have activated the release process, you can choose between the following functions:
· Engineering Change Hierarchy
· Release Process Using the Release Key
