Assignment of a Configurator 

Use

You can use the modeling environment for Variant Configuration to specify which configurator is used for interactive product configuration for a configurable material in SAP ERP. For example, you can choose the standard Variant Configuration function for production operation and use the Configuration Engine (also IPC or SCE) to simulate (test) product configuration models.

Integration

The selected configurator refers to the initial material – that is, the root node in the model that you are editing in the modeling environment. In a multi-level configuration, therefore, you specify the configurator for the header material – irrespective of how the components have been defined.

Prerequisites

If you want to use the Configuration Engine to configure products, you must take certain prerequisites and restrictions into account when you create your models.

Features

You can use either

●      the Standard Variant Configuration function

●      or the Configuration Engine

to configure a product interactively in ERP.

By identifying the material accordingly, you specify which configurator is used for which task.

●      Variant Configuration, if you want to use the standard Variant Configuration function exclusively for the material. This is the standard setting.

●      VC Productive/IPC Optional for Simulation, if you also want to use the Configuration Engine to simulate models. In this setting, you can select a different test configurator by choosing Extras → Settings.

●      IPC Productive/VC Optional for Simulation, if you are using the IPC (Configuration Engine) productively and want to use the standard variant configuration for the simulation. In this setting, you can select a different test configurator by choosing Extras → Settings.

●      IPC Only, if you want to use the Configuration Engine exclusively for the material. This setting is not reversible.

Activities

To specify a configurator for the material, proceed as follows:

       1.      Use the model tree to open the detailed view of the material.

       2.      Choose the basic data tab page.

       3.      Make your desired setting for the configurator.

       4.      Save the model to activate your setting.
