Executing Software Deployment and
Administration
Purpose
With this IT process, you define the configuration for the mobile devices and create setup packages, which the user can then install on their own. Once the registration on the mobile device and the initial synchronization by the user has been completed, the mobile device is ready to use.

1. Define uses, roles, hierarchy groups, and device configurations
You require users, roles, and hierarchy groups to organize your mobile landscape clearly.
With device configurations you can configure mobile devices without being able to access them directly. In doing so, you define the mobile components that are to be installed on the mobile device. Similarly, you define certain device parameters and the drivers installed on the mobile device.
2. Assign device configurations to users, roles, and hierarchy groups
Once you have defined them, assign the device configuration to mobile devices, users and user groups. Alternatively, you can assign the device configuration by assigning a role to it. This option is particularly practical for assigning mobile components.
3. Generate setup packages for one/several devices (optional: Include data)
You can accelerate the installation of the mobile device by creating setup packages in the SAP NetWeaver Mobile Administrator. You can create setup packages for individual users or for groups of users. The packages are based on standard installation procedures and contain the configuration you defined.
You can also include application data in the setup package if required.
4. End user downloads and extracts setup package
A setup package allows the user to install without and Internet or network connection. The setup package contains applications and data for the user of the mobile device.
5. End user registers device during initial synchronization (optional: Install remaining mobile components)
To access the functions of the SAP Mobile Infrastructure Client and the mobile applications on the mobile device, the user must log on to mobile device. Since the user’s mobile device is not recognized by the MI server, the user must trigger the initial synchronization.
Result
You have completed the software deployment and all the necessary administrative steps. You now need to execute the IT process Enabling Runtime and Synchronization.
