Mobilizing Business Processes
With this IT scenario, you can make your existing and new business processes mobile. Users of mobile devices can be included in automatic business processes with the back end, making manual and paper-based processes redundant. Managers, truck drivers, and warehouse workers are examples of typical users involved in mobile business processes.
SAP NetWeaver allows you to integrate various back-end systems (SAP and non-SAP systems) into your IT scenario.
You can use various tools and utilities to administer the IT scenario. These allow you to manage users, configure mobile devices, synchronize, and monitor your mobile landscape.
The following figure provides an overview of the architecture of the IT scenario:

With both scenario variants, the mobile device is connected to the back end by means of the SAP NetWeaver Application Server as the middleware. With the offline variant, a connection only exists during the synchronization. In contrast, the online variant involves a permanent connection.
To use this IT scenario, you require the following systems with activated usage types:
● Mobile Infrastructure (MI)
● Application Server ABAP (AS ABAP)
● Application Server Java (AS-JAVA)
For more information about the system landscape required, see the Master Guide.
The SAP NetWeaver
Developer Studio allows you to quickly and efficiently develop your own mobile
applications, as well as to enhance existing SAP Solutions for Mobile
Business. For more information, see the scenario variants Developing Mobile
Applications for Occasional Connection and

The IT scenario consists of the following scenario variants:

Description |
Users of mobile devices can carry out their tasks without a connection to a back-end system. The required applications and the user interface exist on the mobile device. Data is exchanged with the back end during the synchronization. |
|
Users of mobile devices access the back-end system in real time. All the necessary applications exist on the server. The user interface is generated on the server and transferred to the mobile device. |
