Procedure documentation Transporting BEx Objects  Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

BEx transport objects such as query elements, query views, Web templates, Web items, Enterprise Reports and workbooks are given special treatment in the BI transport system.

If you are transporting these objects for the first time after creating them, follow the instructions in Transporting BI Objects. If the objects are assigned to a package with the first transport, the automatic change recording is made with a special transport request that you have declared as a BEx transport request. If you use a BEx transport request of this kind, the system does not prompt you for a query in subsequent object changes, and you therefore do not need to write each object to the transport request Using a BEx transport request allows you to ensure for example that all transport requests belonging to a query are written to one request.

There are two ways of declaring a transport request as a BEx transport request. One of these is to declare a standard BEx transport request that is valid for all BEx objects that have already been transported. The other is to declare transport requests for certain packages that the changed objects from the packages in question are then written to. With both request types, we recommend defining a new request as a BEx transport request immediately after releasing the previous one,

Note

If the standard transport system has been activated, the BEx transport requests will not be used, and the BEx objects specified above will not be given any special treatment.

In addition to these BEx objects, objects from the planning, broadcasting settings also use the BI transport connection using BEx transport requests. Even if the standard transport system has been activated, these objects will be written to the BEx transport request(s).

Transporting BEx Objects Using a Standard Transport Request

Use

You can store a single transport request for BEx objects that have already been transported. All changes are written to this request – regardless of the user.

Procedure

...

       1.      You are in the Transport Connection functional area in Data Warehousing Workbench. Choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text BEx with the quick info Create Transport Requests for BEx. The BEx Transport Requests dialog box appears.

       2.      To create a transport request for BEx Objects, choose Assign/Delete. The New Transport Request for BEx dialog box appears.

       3.      Assign the required transport request or create a new one. Then choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Continue.

Note

You need to create a new request immediately after releasing a BEx transport request. Either an administrator or project coordinator therefore has to create the requests centrally.

       4.      To transport your BEx transport request, choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text CTO Transport Organizer: Overview. The Transport Organizer: Requests screen appears.

       5.      Select the task or request that you want to release. Choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Release Directly

Note

First, release the individual tasks and then the complete request.

Transporting BEx Objects Using BEx Transport Requests for Individual Packages

Use

One request is sometimes not enough for all BEx objects. You can then make one BEx request per package.

Example

This is the case in the following scenarios:

You want to transport BEx objects from one development system to different productive systems.

You want to divide your BEx objects over several areas in a large project.

Note

If no specific request is saved for a package, the object is written to the standard BEx transport request.

Procedure

Assigning Transport Requests to Packages

...

       1.      You are in the Transport Connection functional area in Data Warehousing Workbench. Choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text BEx with the quick info Create Transport Requests for BEx. The BEx Transport Requests dialog box appears.

       2.      To create a transport request for an individual package, choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Insert Row in the screen area BEx Transport Requests for Single Development Classes. The Enter Development Class dialog box appears.

       3.      Enter the required development class (package), and choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Continue. The New Transport Request for BEx dialog box appears.

       4.      Assign the BEx transport request you want, or create a new one. Then choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Continue. The BEx objects are now distributed to the assigned requests using your package. This means you can write several packages to one request.

Changing the Assignment of Transport Requests

...

       1.      The BEx Transport Requests dialog box appears. Select the package and the request whose assignment you want to change.

       2.      Choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Change Request. The New Transport Request for BEx dialog box appears.

       3.      Enter the BEx transport request that you want to write the BEx objects from the package to, or create a new transport request. Then choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Continue. You have now changed the assignment: A new request has been made for the package.
