A new Web service configuration can re-use some parts of the configuration from previous releases. These include:

  • Internet Communication Framework (ICF) service nodes

The ICF nodes transported with the Web service definition (DesignTime object) are reused in all subsequent systems. The handling of the Design Time (DT) related ICF service nodes is the same in the older and the newer SAP NetWeaver environment.

The SAP NetWeaver 2004 environment does not use other ICF service nodes than the WSD related nodes.

  • External aliases (on the provider side)

External aliases are generated in the SAP NetWeaver 2004 environment only if more than one Web service configuration was created for an existing WSD. The initial Web service provider configuration is based on the ICF service node for the WSD. All other configurations use external aliases.

  • HTTP destinations (on the consumer side)

For applications using Web service links, this means that the transfer from the old configuration to the new configuration is seamless.
