This section discusses how you can use DB reconnect to reconnect to a standby database instance.

Features

This setup uses parallel database technology, where application hosts are connected to one database instance with an additional database instance on another host available as a standby instance. The following diagram illustrates this situation:

If a work process loses connection to the primary database instance, the work process tries to establish a database connection to the same or a standby instance. The configuration and customization of the switchover behavior partially depends on the database vendor and is described in Parameters for Reconnect to an Available Instance in DB Reconnect Parameters.
