Modeling Environment

The modeling environment is used by modeling users to set up and change data and allocation models. This can be done by defining new models or by copying the sample content as a basis and then doing adjustments. The modeling user has all authorizations and also defines what the execution user and the analysis user are allowed to do.

In the modeling environment, you typically start with the copy of an existing model, for example, the example content shipped with the software. This is where all adjustments, changes, and enhancements are done to fulfill the individual customer requirements. The following functions can be used to set up data and allocation models:

  1. Allocation - Function to perform direct and indirect allocations

  2. Calculation Unit - Function to encapsulate another group of functions and make them reusable

  3. Check - Function to perform various checks on calculated data

  4. Collection - Function to perform data collections from various functions into one combined output

  5. Conversion - Function to perform currency conversion

  6. Derivation - Function to perform “if-then-else” enrichments of data

  7. Description - Function to describe processes and topics used for the documentation of models

  8. Editor for Data - Function to enter tabular parameters and to do manual uploads of data

  9. Environment - Function to register all needed fields (characteristics and key figures) as well as the connection to the database

  10. Field Set - Function to group fields for a common purpose, so that they have to be entered only one time and reused in various other functions

  11. IGT Elimination - Function to perform the elimination of Intragroup Transactions

  12. Item Form - Function to define formulas and how to calculate Item sheets, for example, for Profit and Loss schemes

  13. Item Report - Function to perform the data preparation

  14. Item Reconciliation - Function to define reconciliation mappings, which is used to ensure data completeness between applications

  15. Join - Function to perform a join of two inputs based on at least one common field

  16. Lookup - Function to perform a lookup of missing values in a lookup table and bringing these values into the original table

  17. Management of unassigned Items - Function to define suitable allocation characteristics for fields, which could not be allocated successfully

  18. Mapping - Function to perform a mapping from source fields to target fields

  19. Model PM - Data table to store own data

  20. Model View - View of an external data source, like a database table or a view

  21. Transfer Structure -Function to perform a transfer from accounting-based data to costing-based data, also called denormalization

  22. View - Function to perform a projection or aggregation of data, including filtering and formulas

  23. Remote Function Write Adapter - Function to perform an ABAP -based remote function call, for example, to reconcile aggregated P/L results with FI-GL

  24. Results Group Write Adapter - Function to perform a write call into a HANA-optimized RDL Result Group, for example, to store final detailed actual profitability results

  25. Planning Engine Write Adapter - Function to perform a write call into a HANA-optimized BW / BPC Embedded InfoCube, for example, to store detailed planning profitability results
