The Warehouse Area
business object enables information about a warehouse area to be investigated.
A warehouse area represents a physical, logical, or functional division of a warehouse, and is uniquely identified by the combination of warehouse number and storage type.
Storage types can include the following:
High rack storage area
Bulk storage area
Fixed bin storage area
General storage area
Pallet storage area
For example, consider a high rack. The bins at the highest level of the rack are harder to reach and therefore, more difficult to pick. A functional division can be applied to the highest level of the rack to use that level as a reserve storage type. Physically, it is the same high rack, however, the highest level is defined as a different storage type. You can therefore apply different search rules, and apply different criteria for which goods are placed in these bins, how and when they are placed there.
A warehouse area can also be subdivided into warehouse sub areas, for example, dividing a high rack into sections for slow versus fast moving goods (allowing the fast moving goods to be accessed for more quickly). A warehouse area or sub area can then be further divided into the actual storage bins where goods are stored.
