Assigning Catalogs to RolesLocate this document in the navigation structure

Role administrators assign catalogs to a user's PFCG role.

Context

To assign a catalog to the user’s role (end user and catalog admin) in Role Maintenance (transaction PFCG), you add a node of type Catalog to one of the user's roles. Proceed as follows:

Procedure

  1. In Role Maintenance (transaction PFCG), provide the role name and choose Change.

    If no role exists, create a role by choosing Create Single Role.

    All users with this role are granted access to the catalog assigned to the role.

  2. Choose the Menu tab.
  3. Choose Insert Node and select Catalog.
  4. In the dialog box that appears, select one of the following catalog providers:
    1. Fiori Launchpad Catalogs Choose this catalog provider if you want to assign one of the catalogs you created in the launchpad designer.
    2. HANA Catalogs Choose this catalog provider if you want to enable the user to use HANA KPI tiles.
    3. Fiori Catalog Pages Choose this catalog provider if you want to use catalogs that you created in the context of SAP Fiori launch page, the predecessor of the current release version called SAP Fiori launchpad. These catalogs can only be displayed by the home page of SAP Fiori launch page.
    4. Remote Catalogs Choose this catalog provider if you want to use tiles from a catalog on a remote server (in the context of SAP Fiori, a server that is not the front-end server).
  5. Depending on the type of catalog provider you select, proceed as follows:
    1. If you select Fiori Launchpad Catalogs or Remote Catalogs, enter a catalog ID.

      The catalog ID is the name that you provided when creating the catalog in the launchpad designer.

      You can use the value help for this.

    2. If you select HANA Catalogs, confirm your selection.

    In the details view of the node, you also have the following options:

    • You can change and display the node.

    • You can test if the page you enter exists as customizing or configuration. A value help is available for this.

Results

The catalog you assigned to the role is available in the role menu. You can view the content of the catalog in the SAP Fiori launchpad designer by choosing Execute from the context menu of the catalog in the role menu.

In the SAP Fiori launchpad, catalogs that are assigned to one of the user's roles are displayed as folders on the left panel on the user's page. An end user can switch between the folders and can add CHIPs to the page.
