System Types
The following types of SAP system exist:
A system in which the real-life business processes of a company are mapped and in which real-time data is recorded.
A system in which in-house developments are developed and Customizing settings are made.
A system that is used for prototyping and testing system settings and processes.
A system that is used to teach system settings and processes.
A system that is used exclusively for the SAP International Demonstration and Education System. IDES uses a model company to describe common business processes and explain how they are mapped in the SAP system.
A system that is used exclusively for internal employee training or presentations for interested parties.
A separate backup system for a (production) system.
Backup systems were used previously to map high-availability configurations. Since December 1999, high availability configurations can be mapped correctly by requesting several license keys for one system. For more information, see SAP Note 181543.
