Providing Portal Drive to Client PCs
The portal drive allows users to work with documents on the portal in the same way they would work on any Windows drive. Communication with the server is done using the WebDAV protocol.
The WebDAV server is enabled ().
The Enable WebDAV Server option determines whether or not access through WebDAV clients, such as MS Web Folders or portal drive works. If this parameter is disabled, such WebDAV clients cannot connect to your KM. Changes take effect immediately. Disabling the WebDAV server does not affect other standard KM functions. For more information, see WebDAV Protocol.
For information about installing portal drive on client PCs and central configuration, see the documentation.
This command can be displayed in the context menu of folders. It allows users to temporarily map a folder to a drive letter in Windows Explorer.
By default, the Map Portal Drive command is not visible in any iView. To allow users to use this command, you must add the mount_PortalDrive user interface command to the corresponding command group in the KM UI configuration (see Commands and Command Groups).
If you are running a real-time virus scanner, you can configure the virus scanner to exclude scanning of the portal drive cache. Doing this provides a noticeable performance improvement when working with the cache, such as during opening and editing of files.
For more information about the features in portal drive, see Working with Folders in Windows (Portal Drive).
