Creation of Pick Handling Units
You can create new pick handling units or delete existing ones. You can also create a pick handling unit for a warehouse task item. Prerequisite for this is that you have created a packaging material for the pick handling unit.
Recommendation
We recommend that you first generate the pick handling unit for a warehouse task, and then confirm the warehouse task manually in the foreground. Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) copies this pick handling unit into the warehouse task as a destination handling unit. In the reverse scenario, EWM does not copy the pick handling unit. In both instances, you can use the input help to select existing pick handling units.
You have one or more open, in other words unconfirmed, pick warehouse tasks.
You have created one or more packaging materials.
If Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) has already assigned pick handling units for a warehouse order during warehouse order creation, EWM displays them here.
When a pick handling unit is generated, you can either specify an existing handling unit identification or generate a new one. If you delete an existing pick handling unit, EWM only deletes the assignment to the warehouse order and not the pick handling unit itself. If you delete a newly created pick handling unit, EWM deletes both the assignment to the warehouse order and the pick handling unit itself.
You can create a pick handling unit manually either in a resource or in a storage bin. EWM first determines the storage bin automatically. If you generate a pick handling unit in a resource, you must delete the determined storage bin. If the warehouse order to which the warehouse task belongs contains an activity area, EWM determines the storage bin from this activity area. If the warehouse order to which the warehouse task does not contain an activity area, EWM determines the storage bin from the warehouse task. If you generate a pick handling unit, you must also specify a packaging material. If you select a row from the list view with an existing packaging material and generate new pick handling units, EWM also proposes this packaging material for the new pick handling units.
EWM determines the following from the packaging material data:
Packaging material type and its description
Handling unit type and its description
You cannot change this data.
EWM copies the packaging material and the packaging material type from the pick handling unit into the handling unit warehouse task, and display it in the details for the warehouse task item. You cannot change the data.
