The Generic Request and Message Generator (GRMG) enables you to monitor portal availability (heartbeat) in the central monitoring system (CEN).

Note Note

To monitor portal availability (using the portal heartbeat of the Portal Runtime) in SAP NetWeaver Composition Environment, you need to use a central monitoring system (CCMS) with an SAP NetWeaver 7.0 installation.

End of the note.

The process for setting up GRMG to monitor portal availability comprises the following steps:

  1. Define the security zone permissions required for GRMG monitoring.

  2. Create a GRMG customization file that specifies the required configuration settings.

  3. Transfer the GRMG customizing file to the central monitoring system (CEN) via a CCMS agent.

SAP NetWeaver Administrator provides an automated configuration task that assists you in the first two steps of this process (described in the following procedure).

Procedure

  1. Open the Configuration Wizard in SAP NetWeaver Administrator.

For more information about accessing and using the Configuration Wizard, see Configuration Wizard.

  2. Execute the Portal - Configure GRMG Customization File configuration task.

  3. Complete the wizard. In the last step of the wizard, you download the GRMG customization XML file. You can now manually transfer this XML file to the central monitoring system (CEN).
