Procedure documentationTransferring Archive Administration Data of the Metadata to the RW System

To define audit areas and ILM policies for ILM-compliant conversion of legacy data in an RW system, you first need to perform the following steps.

  • Transfer of the archive administration data of metadata to the database of the RW system

If the RW system can access the file system or Content Repository of the existing SN_META archive file during archive file conversion, it is sufficient to transfer the archive administration data to the RW system. You have the option of transferring the contents of the SN_META file to the RW system.

  • Transfer the metadata table entries of the legacy system to the RW system repository.

n Customizing, if you have made the settings for filling the repository automatically, the system automatically copies the metadata table entries to the RW repository during the transfer of the archive administration data of the SN_META file. If this procedure has not been automated, you need to perform it manually. You can edit the list of all tables in the RW repository manually. You can add more locally defined tables to the repository in the RW system. You can also make settings for buffering that are relevant when you use the data for queries.

Prerequisites

If you want to transfer metadata table entries to the RW repository automatically, you need to have made the appropriate settings (Filling the Repository).

Procedure

1. Transferring Archive Administration Data of the SN_META File
  1. In the ILM Retention Warehouse Cockpit for administrators, choose Start of the navigation path Metadata Transfer from the Legacy System Next navigation step Transfer Archive Administration Data for Metadata End of the navigation path.

  2. Under Connections to Legacy Systems, select the legacy system ID (double-click).

    Note Note

If you cannot find the legacy system listed under Connections to Legacy System, on the toolbar, select Connections to Legacy System and enter the system ID, the client, and the RFC connection to the legacy system.

    End of the note.
  3. On the Transfer Administration Data tab page under Sessions and Files, choose the SN_META archive file.

  4. Choose Data Transfer.

  5. Schedule the execution of data transfer as follows:

    Input

    Description

    New logical path

You have the option of storing the archive administration data of the selected archiving sessions and archive files under their own path in the database of the RW system.

To do so, enter the logical path you created in the RW system (transaction FILE).

    Transfer file content

In addition to the archive administration data, you can also transfer the content of the archive files. If you activate this option, the system copies the contents of the archive files to the new archive files of the same name (in the file system of the RW system).

    Reset storage status:

This option has the following effect:

    • The storage status of the transferred archive files in archive administration of the RW system is reset to not stored.

    • No transfer of link entries (ArchiveLink links or links to archive files stored with WebDAV)

    Flow control

    • Test mode: Simulation of the transfer (log creation without changes to the database in the RW system)

    • Production mode: Transfer of the archive administration data to the database of the RW system

    Detail log

This option causes the system to issue log entries for success messages as well as an error messages when archive administration data is transferred.

    Start date and time

Time-based specifications for starting data transfer

    Spool parameters

Specifications for print output in SAP background processing

  6. To track the process of the data transfer (jobs with the prefix ILM_TRANS), open Job Overview.

2. Optional (If Not Automated): Manual Editing of Metadata Table Entries from a Legacy System in the RW Repository

If you have not automated the transfer of metadata table entries, you can control this process manually prior to archive file conversion from the context menu of each archiving session for the SN_META file.

However, we recommend using the relevant functions for the manual transfer of metadata table entries to the repository as well as for the manual editing of repository tables.
