This business function provides you with the functions you need if you:
Modify or upgrade parts internally or send components to external subcontractors for refurbishment.
Need rules-based gATP in SAP SCM and have complex material exchange requirements.
Are an SAP SCM customers using Service Parts Planning (SPP) with repair-buy decisions.
We have integrated the SAP SCM repair or buy function in SPP with SAP ERP so that planning results from SPP can be further processed with all associated information in SAP ERP to execute repairs internally or externally. This integration provides material exchange functions in the upgrade order (for internal repairs) and subcontracting order (for external repairs).
You have activated the Discrete Industries and Mill Products
(DIMP_SDUD) business function set,
and the business functions Material Exchange Using SCM
(AD_MPN_SCM) and Material Exchange

The rules-based ATP check (RBA) in SCM provides an extensive range of functions for checking material availability.
External repairs — Subcontracting orders with the Rules-based ATP check (RBA)
You use RBA to check for available components for a subcontracting order. You trigger the check by choosing Check availability
in the Components
area
of the Component Overview
screen. The results of the check are displayed in the ATP popup, where you can accept or modify the ATP proposals. The results of the ATP check are taken into the component list. You can only adopt the result of one material.
RBA is only possible for a material component item with material provision indicator ‘S’ (rework material) and no serial number can be assigned to the corresponding material. For more information, see Parts Interchangeability in Subcontracting.
Internal repairs — Upgrade orders
An upgrade order is a new type of refurbishment order that allows a material number change for a serviceable or unserviceable part which is to be upgraded or modified during repair and returned as a serviceable part. For example, you require a part (material B). Rather than procure a new part, you want to check the stock to see if there is an available part (material A) that can be repaired or upgraded to fulfill your requirement.
For more information, see Parts Interchangeability in Upgrade Orders.
Manual entry of structure nodes in PM orders
You can now manually enter structure nodes in the PM order on the Component
tab page. The manually entered structure code is checked to see if it is a valid installation point for the material.
For this check the interchangeability information maintained in SAP SCM for all materials active in APO is also used (if you have made all the required settings). This check of the manually entered structure node can be replaced by customer-specific checks, depending on your Customizing settings.
For more information, see Material Exchange Using SCM.
