Selection criterion for products.

You can use the planning group to restrict the selection of products that you plan in a processing step of the production planning run.

Use

The planning group is relevant for planning with heuristics that plan products, for example, for procurement planning heuristics and for the MRP heuristic. A heuristic can only plan a product if the product belongs to one of the planning groups that you have specified for the processing step.

The planning group is also available in the propagation range as a selection criterion. Therefore, you can restrict the products that the system can plan in the production planning to the planning groups.

Planning groups support planning tasks such as the creation of a finite production plan or master production scheduling. You divide the products into planning groups and define the sequence of heuristic runs in the production planning run accordingly.

To assign a product to a planning group, you enter the name of the planning group on the PP/DS tab page in the location product master. You define the names of the planning groups in Customizing for Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling (PP/DS) under MRP Planning Run → Maintain Planning Groups.
