Execute Characteristics-Dependent Planning
(CDP)
You can use CDP to allocate requirements and receipt components via the same characteristics.
To use CDP, ensure that the following prerequisites have been met:
· You have met the general prerequisites (see Prerequisites for Planning)
· You have specified that you are using characteristics-dependent planning (CDP) in Customizing in SAP APO under Advanced Planning and Optimization → Master Data → Classification and Configuration → Define Configuration Relevance (CDP or Variant Configuration)..
· The materials must be configurable in the R/3 system (plug-in), or must be material variants that refer to a configurable material.
· The products must be assigned a class with class type 400 in SAP APO.
· When transferring from the R/3 system (plug-in), the system converts the classes with class type 300 and, if required, class type 023 to class type 400.
· If you are using production process model plans (PPMs) as the source of supply for in-house production, you must have defined a characteristic propagation (see Define Characteristics Propagation).

In SAP APO, you can
create planned or production orders with configuration for a configurable
product. The incoming sales orders are assigned to the suitable planned or
production orders via pegging (see also
Pegging).
The system internally converts planned orders with a configuration into production orders when retransferring the data to the R/3 system; planned orders cannot have their own configuration in the R/3 system.

When planning in warehouse segment, you can only retransfer the production orders with a configuration if you are using the industry-specific enhancement IS-MP.
