Function documentation Component Withdrawal in Another Location  Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Use

For Supply Chain Planning within a plant based on storage location MRP areas in SAP APO, you can withdraw a component of an assembly produced in-house from a location other than the production location.

Example

·         You just plan a less important component in the plant location. The bill of material for an important assembly contains the component. You plan this assembly in a storage location MRP area. You withdraw the component from the plant location.

·         You only manufacture a component in a storage location MRP area. In this storage location MRP area, other storage location MRP areas or the plant location withdraw the component.

The component is procured directly and without a stock transfer step, meaning that it takes place without a transportation lane and without a procurement proposal for the stock transfer. When a planned order is created for the assembly, the system creates the dependent requirement for the component directly in the issuing location.

The following graphic shows a plant location and two storage location MRP areas. You plan an assembly in the storage location MRP area 2. The receipt of a planned order for an assembly is therefore in the storage location MRP area 2. The components are withdrawn in the plant location. The dependent requirement is therefore in the plant location.

This graphic is explained in the accompanying text

The withdrawal in another location corresponds to the withdrawal of a component in a specific storage location of the plant in SAP R/3.

Prerequisites

If you have transferred all master data from SAP R/3 that is relevant for planning with storage location MRP areas, this automatically fulfills the prerequisites for component withdrawal in another location for the examples given above:

·        You plan and produce a component in SAP R/3 (and thus also in SAP APO) only at plant level. Therefore, the component is only assigned to the plant location in SAP APO. The system automatically withdraws the component in the plant location for an assembly that you plan in a storage location MRP area.

·        You only plan and produce a component in one storage location MRP area and supply the plant location and other storage location MRP areas with this component. If you have entered an issuing storage location in the routing or in the BOM for an assembly in SAP R/3, this issuing storage location is automatically transferred to the plan for the source of supply in SAP APO. The plant location and the other storage location MRP areas thus automatically withdraw the component in the storage location MRP area to which the storage location belongs.

To define special issuing locations, you have to maintain the master data in SAP APO, if required. For more information, see Location Determination for Components, Co-Products, or By-Products.
