Function documentation Pegging with Product Substitution Orders  Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Use

If the product heuristic creates a product substitution order for a requirement, the system automatically links the requirement with the product substitution order using a dynamic or fixed pegging relationship. The substitution information for an interchangeable component of a planned order is therefore not in the planned order itself, but in the product substitution order that is linked to the planned order by the pegging relationship. However, you cannot transfer product substitution orders to SAP R/3. To support shop floor production with processing manufacturing orders in SAP R/3, PP/DS adopts the substitute components in the planned order if you set the conversion indicator for the planned order in SAP APO. The adoption of the substitute component is based on the pegging relationship to a product substitution order.

Features

The purpose for which the product heuristic uses the product substitution order determines whether the system creates a fixed or a dynamic pegging relationship, as follows:

·        If the system excludes a requirement for a product from the net requirements calculation and forwards it to the successor product, the system links the requirement and the product substitution order with a fixed pegging relationship.

·        If the system uses the stock of the predecessor product for a product requirement, the system links the requirement and the product substitution order with a dynamic pegging relationship. This situation is relevant if the product and its predecessor product are fully interchangeable. The product substitution order has a higher priority for dynamic pegging than any product stock that possibly exists. The predecessor component should be used up first.

·        In all other cases, the system links the requirement for the product and the product substitution order with a dynamic pegging relationship. However, the product stock always has a higher priority than the product substitution order. Therefore, if stock exists, dynamic pegging uses the stock.

Dynamic pegging relationships to product substitution orders

If a dependent requirement for an interchangeable component of a planned order does not have a pegging relationship to a product substitution order, the system cannot adopt any substitute components into the planned order when the conversion indicator is set.

A dynamic pegging relationship could be missing because:

·        The system could not create it

·        The system has deleted the pegging relationship again during the planning process

This is caused by the violation of the pegging interval. The system can only create a dynamic pegging relationship if the availability date/time of the product substitution order does not vary too much from the requirements date/time.

·        The pegging interval could be violated on creation of a product substitution order if the dependent requirement is already in the past at the planning time. However, the system can schedule the product substitution order at the planning time at the earliest. Create a pegging interval in the location product master that allows a short delay for the product substitution order (a delay of a day, for example).

·        The system can delete a dynamic pegging relationship again during the planning process. This could be when you manually reschedule the planned order without taking account of dynamic pegging relationships. In this case, the system reschedules the planned order without rescheduling the product substitution order. If the difference between the dependent requirements date/time and the availability date/time of the product substitution order is too large, the pegging interval might be violated.

If you change dates/times after an MRP planning run, you should perform an ATP check or a new MRP planning run before setting the conversion indicator. For more information on date/time changes and solving any resulting planning problems, see Date/Time Changes when Planning with Product Interchangeability.
