Storage Location MRP Area in SAP APO
Location type in SAP APO to which one or more storage locations are assigned.
Locations of the type Storage Location MRP Area are used in particular in integrated in-plant Supply Chain Planning. You use an SAP R/3 system for master data management and order processing and an SAP APO system for planning. To plan in-plant procurement and production processes in detail, you have divided up the plant in SAP R/3 into storage location MRP areas. You transfer the storage location MRP areas to SAP APO where they are automatically created as locations of the type storage location MRP areas. In SAP APO, you execute procurement planning on the basis of storage location MRP areas.
You can also create locations of the type storage location MRP area locally in SAP APO. However, you cannot integrate them with SAP R/3.
In SAP R/3, a storage location MRP area belongs to exactly one plant. This relationship is also mapped in SAP APO as follows:
· If you manually create a storage location MRP area in SAP APO, you enter the location to which the storage location MRP area belongs in the location master of the storage location MRP area.
· If you transfer a storage location MRP area from SAP R/3 to SAP APO, the plant to which the storage location MRP area belongs is automatically entered in the location product master of the storage location MRP area.
As in SAP R/3, one or more storage locations are assigned to a storage location MRP area in SAP APO:
· If you manually create a storage location MRP area in SAP APO, you manually enter the storage locations in the location master of the storage location MRP area.
· If you transfer a storage location MRP area from SAP R/3 to SAP APO, the storage locations are also automatically transferred and assigned to the storage location MRP area in SAP APO. You cannot change this assignment in SAP APO.
In the plan for an in-house production source of supply in SAP APO, a storage location can be assigned to a component, a co-product, or a by-product, either through a transfer from SAP R/3 or through manual maintenance. On creation of a planned order in the storage location MRP area, SAP APO uses this storage location to determine the location from which the planned order should withdraw a component or store a co-product or by-product.
A storage location in a storage location MRP area is flagged as the leading storage location in SAP APO.
· If you manually create a storage location MRP area in SAP APO, you have to manually set the Leading Storage Location indicator in the location master for the storage location.
· If you transfer a storage location MRP area from SAP R/3 to SAP APO, the receipt storage location entered in the storage location MRP area in SAP R/3 as the receipt storage location is automatically flagged in SAP APO as the leading storage location.
The leading storage location is relevant to the assignment of requirements and receipts and to the ATP check in the sales order, as follows:
· By default, SAP APO assigns the receipts and requirements that it creates in the storage location MRP area to the leading storage location. SAP APO always assigns the receipt of a planned order in a storage location MRP area to the leading storage location. SAP APO also assigns a stock transfer requirement or dependent requirement to the leading storage location, provided another storage location has not been defined at another place (for example, in the in-house production source of supply).
· If you execute a rules-based ATP check while taking account of storage location MRP areas in the sales order, the system enters the storage location MRP area found and the leading storage location in the sales order.
In the storage location MRP area in SAP APO, you can also flag any storage location as the receiving storage location or the issuing storage location. Issuing and receiving storage locations are relevant to stock transfers. SAP APO automatically assigns the requirement from a stock transfer to the issuing storage location, while it automatically assigns the receipt from a stock transfer to the receiving storage location.
