In rounding with a rounding profile, the system can adjust the procurement quantities to various rounding values that correspond to various packaging sizes, for example.

In order that the system uses a rounding profile for rounding, you must have defined a rounding profile in Customizing for Master Data under Product → Maintain Rounding Profiles and entered it in the location product master.

In the rounding profile you define threshold values for the procurement quantity and specify a rounding value for each threshold value. During rounding, the system compares the procurement quantity with the threshold values and rounding values as follows:

• If the procurement quantity is below the lowest threshold value, the system creates a receipt with this procurement quantity.
• If the procurement quantity is between the lowest threshold value and the rounding value that is assigned to this threshold value, the system rounds up the procurement quantity to the rounding value. The procurement quantity must, therefore, fill the smallest packaging unit completely. If the procurement quantity exceeds the rounding value, the system rounds up the procurement quantity to the next multiple of the rounding value, and therefore fills several small packaging units.
• If the procurement quantity is between the next highest threshold value and the associated rounding value, the system rounds up the procurement quantity to this rounding value. The system therefore defines a procurement quantity that fills the next largest packaging unit.
• If the procurement quantity exceeds this rounding value, small packaging units as well as large ones can be filled, depending on quantity. The system checks first how many of the large units the procurement quantity contains. The system then rounds up the remaining quantity so that small packaging units are filled completely.

Accordingly, for larger procurement quantities, the system evaluates the next threshold and rounding values that correspond to larger packaging units: From a threshold value the system rounds up to the relevant rounding value. If the procurement quantity exceeds the rounding value, the system splits the procurement quantity into partial quantities the same size as the rounding value. The system compares the remaining quantity again with the threshold values and fills smaller units accordingly.

The purchase order of a product should be made in sets and in palettes. A set contains five pieces of the product and a palette contains eight sets; that is, 40 pieces. As of a procurement quantity of two pieces, a whole set (5 pieces) should be ordered. As of a procurement quantity of 32 pieces, a whole palette should be ordered. You have defined the rounding profile as follows:

The following table contains the original procurement quantities that are rounded and the procurement quantities that have been rounded up.

With an original procurement quantity of 74 pieces, at least one complete palette (40 pieces) can be ordered. Since the remaining quantity of 34 pieces exceeds the threshold value of 32 pieces, a palette must also be ordered for this. The system rounds up a procurement quantity of 74 pieces to a procurement quantity of 80 pieces.
