Object documentationCharacteristics for CDP and Block Planning Locate this document in the navigation structure

You use the characteristics to describe requirements that the system is to consume with receipts in the same characteristics. You define the blocks with characteristics in block planning.

You can only use characteristics with the following data types for CDP:

  • Character format

  • Numeric format

  • Date format

  • Time format

The Currency Format data type and user-defined data types are not supported.

Generally, you create characteristic values for configuration and classification in the ERP system. The input check is also carried out here.

The following properties of a characteristic are not taken into account when creating characteristic values in SAP APO for CDP:

  • Restrictions

  • Authorization group

  • Default values

  • Interval values allowed (indicator is only set for characteristic requirements. If the indicator is not set, you can only create multiple values and no interval for characteristic requirements.)

  • Dependencies

  • Characteristic overwrites

  • No other value checks except allowed values (these value checks include value checks via check table, function module, catalog characteristic)

  • Value hierarchy

  • Reference to table field (reference characteristic)

  • Indicator for evaluation (settings Not Ready for Input, No Display, Display Allowed Values)

  • Settings for controlling unformatted entries

  • Restrictions to class type

  • Validity period

    Note Note

Characteristic names cannot begin with SAP_ or LOBM for CDP. These namespaces are reserved for SAP and are used for special application cases.

    End of the note.
Numeric Characteristics

For CDP, numeric characteristics can have up to 15 places, 3 of which must be decimal places. If you are using a different format, the data after the third decimal place will be lost.

Multiple-Value Characteristic

Characteristic value assignments for the configuration and the batch classification only use single values. You can only use multiple-value characteristics for characteristic requirements (for example, for block basis definitions, rules in the PPM plan, or characteristic requirements from batch selection criteria). You can then specify multiple values for characteristic requirements for characteristics with character format. For numeric characteristics, you can also specify an interval in addition to multiple values.

Organizational Areas

Only use planning-relevant characteristics in SAP APO for CDP. Create user-specific organizational areas in the ERP system and specify these in the integration model to mark characteristics in the ERP system as planning-relevant. For more information, see Organizational Areas for Characteristics.
