Use

The planning log in Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling (PP/DS) contains messages that the system issues during interactive planning or in background planning. You can use the planning log to analyze planning problems and identify the causes of the problems.

Note

The system can also display certain messages that are issued during planning with a procurement planning heuristic in the Alert Monitor (alert type Exception in Procurement Planning). For more information, see Monitoring PP/DS Alerts.

Features

Selecting and filtering planning logs

You can select planning logs according to the following criteria:

·        Whether they were created in interactive planning or in background planning

·        Which types of messages they contain, such as termination messages or warnings

You can use various filter criteria to filter logs from the selection of logs you defined using selection criteria.

·        Planning version

The system displays a log only if it has been generated for one of the specified planning versions.

·        Exception group

The system displays a log only if it contains messages that belong to the specified exception groups.

Note

Messages are grouped according to specific criteria in an exception group. An exception group can contain all messages for the procurement quantity calculation or for source determination, for example. You define exception groups in Customizing for Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling (PP/DS) under Application Logs for PP/DS Maintain Exception Groups.

·        Context information

The system displays a log only if it contains messages that the system has created in the specified context. The heuristic is a piece of context information. With this context information, you can filter the logs according to whether they contain messages that were created using a specific heuristic during planning. Additional context information relates to the pegging area. You can use this to select logs containing a message for a specific location product or that arose for a certain location during planning, for example. Whether context information on the pegging area exists depends on the application that generates the message. This context information is not available for all messages.

The filter criteria are also available in the list of messages for the selected logs.

Note

If you filter messages in this list, you see only the messages that satisfy the filter criteria. However, the connection to other messages, or context, is liable to be lost as a result of filtering. To restore the context for a message, display the planning log for the message. To do so, select the message and choose Technical Information Display Planning Log.

Log for last planning run

For a selected product, you can invoke the planning log for the planning run in which the product was last planned. To do so, choose Evaluations Logs Log for Last Planning Run in the area menu for production planning.

The function is available for production planning runs with procurement planning heuristics. In the Planning Run Info view, the system displays the message with the highest priority for the log number instead of showing all messages that occurred during product planning.

Note

You define the priority of a message in Customizing for the exception groups.

You can double-click on the log number to branch to the planning log. You can also navigate to the product view or the product planning table.

In the application, you can also switch to the Product Info view, which gives you an overview of the availability situation for a product and the alerts and days’ supplies for a product (see Product Overview).

Processing status

In the This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Processing Status column, you can flag logs that you have already looked at. The logs are then moved down to the bottom of the list.

Either double-click on the column in the relevant line or select a line and choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Change Processed Status.

The indicator is reset either by a new planning run or manually. It corresponds to the processing indicator for the MRP list in the R/3 system.

Note

This indicator differs from the Processed indicator in the product overview.

The Processed indicator in the Product Info view shows that you have processed products with regard to the alert situation, for example.

Activities

You invoke the planning log:

·        In interactive planning under Goto Display Logs

·        In the area menu for Production Planningunder Reporting Logs
