Definition

The differentiation of a product based on various specifications or characteristics. A batch does not have any master data attributes. The system stores all information as characteristics (for example, country of origin or expiration date).

Use

Batches are managed centrally as a master data system in an ERP system.

The ERP system distributes batches to all connected EWM systems.

You can create and change batches in the EWM system As soon as you make changes to the batch master data, all other connected EWM systems receive these changes automatically via the master data distribution.

Batch characteristics describe the technical, physical and/or chemical properties of a batch. You store the batch characteristics, for example the batch status, in the classification system.

Example

The batches of a particular car paint are specified by color value, viscosity and expiration date. In the classification system, you store the characteristics corresponding to the properties color value, viscosity and expiration date, and assign the corresponding values to each batch.

If you change the characteristics in the batch master, the system automatically changes the batch stock in all connected EWM systems via the distribution of the batch master data. The ERP system then automatically makes a posting change in the batch stock from unrestricted to restricted.

To be able to use the batch characteristics, you must install the classification system.

Caution

Note that if EWM is installed on an ERP system, EWM uses the classification from the ERP system. You must process the master data attributes using the corresponding ERP transactions.

      Valuation

Typical valuations are:

                            a.      Country of origin

                            b.      Expiration date

                            c.      Batch status

The material master in the ERP system determines the exact valuations. You can change the valuation of the batch at any time in the batch master. You can re-evaluate the batches by conducting a quality inspection. This way, you can record the best possible information about the batch in the EWM system for the goods issue process.

The following fields are simultaneously stock attributes:

      Country of Origin

      Expiration Date

      Batch Status
