Function documentation Block Storage Bins for Open Warehouse Tasks Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Use

You use this function to consider blocked storage bins after creating a warehouse task. When you block a storage bin, you use an exception code to define what is to happen to the relevant warehouse task.

When creating warehouse tasks, the system checks whether a storage bin is blocked. When blocking storage bins, the system does not check whether open warehouse tasks exist if you do not define exception codes in Customizing. If a storage bin is blocked after you have created the warehouse task, this does not have any effect on the open warehouse task. The system also does not check the lock indicators when confirming this warehouse task.

This enables you to block storage bins that cannot be used for whatever reason (due to damage, for example) for further putaway or picking.

For more information about blocking storage bins and open warehouse tasks using Radio Frequency, see Block Storage Bins for Open Warehouse Tasks Using RF.

Prerequisites

In Customizing, you have defined the exception codes that apply when you block storage bins with open warehouse tasks.

To do this, in the Implementation Guide (IMG) for Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) choose Cross-Process Settings® Warehouse Task ® Define Control for Blocking Storage Bins.

Features

You block storage bins:

In the EWM system. Choose Extended Warehouse Management ® Master Data ® Storage Bin ® Change Storage Bin (transaction SCWM/LS02), and in the Status box, set the indicator Set Putaway Block or Set Stock Removal Block.

In the warehouse management monitor of the EWM system. In the warehouse management monitor, choose Stock and Bin ® Storage Bin ® Other Methods. You use one of the defined methods to block or unblock putaways and stock removals.

Activities

You create a warehouse task with a particular warehouse process type, which in turn is dependent on the warehouse process type. When blocking the storage bin, the system checks:

       1.      Whether an open warehouse task (WT) exists for this

       2.      The warehouse process type for the open WT

       3.      Whether the source or destination storage bin is blocked

       4.      The IMG activity if an exception is defined (see table below)

When processing warehouse tasks with blocked storage bins, the internal process codes listed in the table are allowed depending on the business context and bin type.
