 Editing Specification or Parameter Symbols

Use

You want to insert or change symbols of type Specification or Parameter in the document template.

Note Note

If you want to insert phrase data for the phrase management component, you must insert a symbol of type Descriptor (see Editing Descriptor Symbols and Selecting the Correct Symbol Type ).

End of the note.

Note Note

See Editing Instance Control Symbols for information about editing the specification symbols in instance control.

End of the note.

Prerequisites

See the Prerequisites section under Document Template Layout Editing .

Procedure

  1. Position the cursor at the point in the report template where you want to insert the symbol.

  2. Select the required symbol in the symbol tree or in the report template.

There are various search functions available below the symbol tree (see Windows Wordprocessor Integration (WWI) ).

    Note Note

Specification symbols and parameter symbols have different expansion times in the standard system:

Icon for specification symbols with expansion time report body:

Icon for parameter symbols with expansion time final report:

    End of the note.

The selected symbol is displayed on the Symbol tab page.

  3. Check the system entries on the tab page and change the entries for the following fields if necessary:

    • Multiple Value Assignment and Separator for Multiple Value Assignment

You can specify that the first value or all values (if necessary with discrete repeating group for output with paragraph mark or tabulator) of a specific expansion mode are to be output.

For multiple value assignments, the system inserts a comma with a space by default (no other control character is added to the symbol). If you enter a different separator, it is inserted between single quotation marks together with the parser indicator ( /T ), for example, <01G1013010VA(;*/T':')>. Predefined separators that do not require single quotation marks are L for line break, T for tab, and P for paragraph. Note that separators must be ASCII characters. Chinese or Arabic commas are not allowed in particular, since these are not defined in the ASCII character set.

If you use the input help to define a tabulator, paragraph mark, or line break as the separator, a discrete repeating group should not be necessary in most cases.

    • Expansion mode

Depending on the expansion mode, you can use specific expansion parameters:

      Data Type

      Expansion Mode

      Expansion Parameter

      Value (characteristic, table field)

      Without

      -

      NM

      N : see Mask

M : see Function Module and Bar Code

      Value (identifier)

      IT

I : category, type, regulatory list if assigned, for example, <01GESTRIDENT(I:NAM,CAS)>

      T : identification listing, for example, <01GESTRIDENT(T:D_WASTECOD)>

      Phrase-enabled characteristic

      GPC

G : graphic, for example, <01G1013006ME(G)[SZ:A]> (see syntax of Graphic Size and Memory Requirements for Graphics )

      P : phrase text, for example, <01G1013006ME(P)>

      C : phrase code, for example, <01G1013006ME(C)>

      Note Note

If you have created the symbol for the long text of an identifier on a report template, but the long text is not available in the SAP system, the short text for the identifier is output following report generation.

You specify the selection strategy for the identification listings in Customizing for Basic Data and Tools in the IMG activity Check Identification Listing .

      End of the note.
    • Message for Mandatory Symbol

If you want to define the symbol as a mandatory symbol, enter the message type (see Symbol ).

  4. Choose one of the following functions:

    • If you want to insert a new symbol in the template, choose with the quick info text Insert WWI Object in Template .

    • If you want to edit an existing symbol in the template, for example, to change the settings for the expansion mode, choose with the quick info text Edit WWI Object in Template .

      Note Note

If you insert a symbol for values from the value assignment, you must always create a repeating group of the type Master group around the symbol.

If you want to display values of a value assignment type as a list or table, you can use the WWI Wizard .

      End of the note.
