 Lot-Size Calculation

Purpose

The lot-size calculation is carried out in MRP. In the net requirements calculation, the system determines material shortages for each requirement date. These shortage quanities must be covered by receipt elements. The system then calculates the quantities required for the receipts in the planning run in the procurement quantity calculation.

Prerequisites

  • You must define the appropriate lot-sizing procedure in Customizing for MRP in the workstep Checking the Lot-sizing Procedure .

  • You assign the appropriate lot-sizing procedure to the material in the material master record (MRP view 1) and, if necessary, you must specify additional restrictions.

  • Minimum lot size (minimum procurement quantity per lot)

  • Maximum lot size (maximum procurement quantity per lot)

  • Rounding value (quantity rounded up to a multiple of this value)

  • Rounding profile (staggered rounding)

  • In the material master record or in the BOM, you must enter the values for the scrap calculation.

Process Flow

  1. The system compares the shortage quantity calculated with the parameters of the lot-sizing procedure chosen and so calculates the lot size.

  2. If you have specified a rounding value or a rounding profile , the system rounds up the lot size and thus calculates the procurement quantity .

Result

The result of the lot-size calculation is the quantity to be produced or procured. You can display and change the procurement quantity in the procurement proposal.
