 G/L Account Balances

Definition

The balance of a G/L account is the sum of the debit and credit balances of the account.

There are two types of balances:

  • Credit balances

  • Debit balances

Structure

The account balance displays the following:

  • The opening balance (the balance carried forward from the previous year)

  • The total of all transactions for each posting period, broken down into debit and credit postings (transaction figures)

From these figures the system also calculates the following for the account balance display:

  • The balance per posting period

  • The accumulated account balance
