  Determining the Airfare

Use

The reservation system cannot provide fares while you are checking flight availability, because the fare depends on the combination of flights (such as outbound and return flights).

The fare is, however, required so that the ticket can be issued by the travel agency to complete the booking process.

Fare Determination Options

The fare can be determined before booking (that is, after selecting the flight connection from an availability list), while booking , or after the booking has been made.

You can make the following settings for fare determination in combination with the travel planning control variant. You make these settings in Customizing for Travel Planning under Start of the navigation path Dialog and Planning Control Next navigation step Travel Planning Control Next navigation step Define Price and Availability Strategies End of the navigation path in the Price Determination field.

  • Not automatic :

The system does not automatically determine the fare. The fare determination process must be started by the user, for example by pressing the Price button .

  • Automatic after Selection :

The system automatically determines the airfare for the flight connection after a flight has been selected from a standard query. The fare will be displayed in the overview of the travel service in the planning manager.

  • Automatic after selection + Best Price Comparison :

The fare will be determined automatically if the user selects a flight using the standard availability query. The system also starts the Best Price Flight query and a dialog box appears offering the user the option of replacing the selected flight with a cheaper alternative.

  • Query when Booking :

No automatic fare determination takes place after the flight has been selected. If the user does not manually determine the fare using the corresponding button, the system creates a query when booking the travel plan to ask whether the fare should be determined. From this query the user can now determine the fare, or they can allow the travel agency to determine it later.

A fare must exist before the ticket can be issued. If the system cannot determine the current fare, you can either have the travel agency determine it later or use a different booking class and restart the fare determination process.
