 Infotype Concept

An infotype is a group of object-based pieces of information on a particular area. Infotypes are units of information in the SAP system that are grouped together as a set of data fields.

From the user's perspective, an infotype is an input screen for creating employee-related data and business data belonging together. The user can create, change, copy, delimit, and delete this data using infotypes.

Technically speaking, an infotype is a data structure. The data stored in an infotype is always based on the personnel number of an employee or the applicant number of an applicant. In other words, an infotype data record is always assigned to exactly one employee or applicant.

There are infotypes that are only used in Personnel Administration and infotypes that are only used in Recruitment. There are also some infotypes that are used in both application areas, such as:

  • Personal Data (Infotype 0002)

  • Addresses (Infotype 0006)

  • Internal Communication (Infotype 0105)

Each infotype is indicated by a four-digit number nnnn . This number uniquely identifies an infotype. The number range 9000 to 9999 is reserved for customer infotypes.
